Daytona 955i In 1996 Triumph announced a bike which was to prove that the Hinckley factory was more than simply back in the business of making motorcycles, but primed to take on the best in the world in the fiercely competitive, prestigious big capacity supersports class. The Daytona T595 offered everything needed to run with the very best bikes available - an immensely powerful engine with a broad spread of torque, a chassis to satisfy even the hardest riders on the race track and brakes which matched ferocious stopping power with easy controllability. All this, and then some. Despite the single-minded aim of offering cutting edge performance, the Daytona still retained the character and individuality which has endeared so many Triumphs to their owners. Unique in the class was the three cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine, designed at Triumph with collaboration from Lotus to optimise the port and combustion chamber shapes and cam profiles. Riders delighted in the soulful howl of the triple at full chat while savouring the forceful acceleration. The frame won as many fans for its unique, tubular aluminium construction designed with aesthetics in mind as much as precision handling and the ideal mix of flickability and stability. For 1999 this basic and highly successful recipe is the same, but in line with Triumph's policy of continuous development the latest Daytona, now called the 955i, has been improved and refined even further.
NEW FEATURES FOR 1999 1. Modified exhaust camshaft 2. Revised throttle bodies 3. New air bypass system 4. Revised engine management tune 5. New exhaust header pipes 6. New rear suspension unit 7. New airbox 8. Revised wiring and hoses 9. Sealed Battery 10. New frame finish 11. New decals
1. The exhaust camshaft has been modified to boost the midrange power and offer the rider a more constant, even progression of torque from low revs right up to the power peak, giving the Daytona even more punch for overtaking or powering out of corners. 2. The throttle bodies have been changed and now use 5 degree butterflies in place of the previous 12 degree items, to provide the rider with more precise control at very small throttle openings. These have resulted in a liquid smooth power delivery that enhances low speed riding particularly. 3. A new stepper motor in the air bypass system eliminates hunting at idle, giving the bike a more reliable tickover speed. 4. The revised engine management tune, compatible with the modified exhaust camshaft, throttle bodies and new air bypass, gives significantly improved fuel consumption. 5. The Daytona's already prodigious ground clearance has been further improved by re-routing the exhaust header pipes. 6. The Showa rear suspension unit is now fitted with a firmer spring and has revised damping characteristics to match. The spring rate has been increased from 13 kg/mm to 14 kg/mm. The result is even steadier high speed handling with improved feedback to the rider and a sportier ride. 7. The airbox of the 1999 Daytona is constructed of screwed together components rather than welded to improve quality and ease maintenance, further enhanced by its new snap-on fit. 8. The electrical wiring and coolant hoses have been redesigned and re-routed in another move to simplify maintenance. 9. The sealed battery is fitted as standard for ease of maintenance. 10. The frame has been given an appealing new gunmetal finish to distinguish the 955i as a 1999 model and enhance even further the Daytona's purposeful looks. 11. In keeping with the 955i's status as a revised machine, the decals have been changed for an updated look.
